Academic standards ...

Fashion, as a main social issue, is at least two centuries old. Nowadays, it represents a really significant sector in the world economy, creates millions of jobs (in France alone, there are 17,000 fashion companies employing over 20 employees each) and a huge turnover that can easily be compared to the other fundamental sectors (in France: 25 billion euros including 10 billion for export).

Nevertheless, it has never been considered by universities, nor taught or researched. Until lately, not a single university proposed a programme in fashion management or luxury industries in France. One can probably wonder why universities have left aside this sector and have never given it the interest it deserves. In any case, it is in this ignored field that Mod’Art International has decided to settle in the long run despite the many institutional difficulties. This project started already five years ago through the collaboration with the University of Perpignan (south of France). After creating a university degree in “Mode, Luxe et Arts de Vivre” (equivalent to a first year of master degree), the MBA in “Luxury Goods & Fashion Industries” was born allowing students to get a truly valuable diploma. This unique MBA fully taught in English and composed of 41 students from 17 coutries is already a roaring success and could quickly inspire other European or American universities.

Participating in this development makes me feel tremendously satisfied since most of my research and books over the last 10 years were dedicated to fashion. I am now convinced that more and more students will choose this field of study and that many new projects will be developed within universities in the years to come.
